I wear many hats at the same time as a feminist-activist, researcher, teacher, and a documentary filmmaker.

I am an Associate Professor at Queen’s University in the Department of Global Development Studies. I hold a cross-appointment with the Gender Studies Program at Queen’s University and an affiliation with the Cultural Studies Program there.

In the past, I have taught in the departments of Gender Studies and Film and Media at Queen’s University. From 2007 – 2014, I was a visiting lecturer at the Rotary Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. The Centre is one of five Peace Centres that offer fellowships to professionals working in the field of conflict, internal displacement, and peace-building. I taught modules on Gender and Conflict, and Media, Conflict and Peacebuilding. In Fall 2018, I was a Visiting Fellow at the International Migration Research Centre at the Balsillie School of International Affairs, Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo.

As an independent documentary filmmaker, I have directed documentaries focussing on gender, child labour, development, and migration in South Asia. with a special emphasis on the impact of globalization on the rural poor. My documentaries have been used as tools for grassroots activism and have been also screened extensively in film festivals around the world. Some of them have gone on to win awards for their poignant and incisive portrayal of the impact of globalization on the rural poor.
